Artists

Arnold Holzknecht

Arnold Holzknecht was born in Bressanone (province of Bolzano) in 1960, and today lives and works in Ortisei (BZ).

After serving his apprenticeship with a sculptor, Holzknecht studied at the Academy of Figurative Art in Florence, and later in Munich.

His works are understated, almost meditative, on wood and in bas-relief; they demonstrate not only the artist's superb technique, but also his loving attention to wood as a material. Holzknecht's works are never excessively gestural, but they always arouse curiosity.

Arnold Mario Dall’ O was born in 1960 in Cermes (province of Bolzano), and today lives and works in Merano (BZ).

“The artist is like a modern-day court jester, appointed to entertain his masters but at the same time free to criticize, to turn the mirror towards the spectators".
Arnold Mario Dall’O

Gregor Prugger

Gregor Prugger was born in 1954 in Ortisei (province of Bolzano), where he lives and works to this day.

After serving his apprenticeship with a sculptor, Holzknecht studied at the Academy of Figurative Art in Florence, and later in Munich.

Using a variety of different materials and basing his creations on natural forms, Prugger probes and examines the links and interconnections between our socio-cultural situations. Trees and their roots are stripped of their bark, carved and finished in order to demonstrate the vulnerability of Mother Nature and, consequently, of mankind too.
This is how Prugger has re-discovered a new language in wood sculpture, with which he reveals the secrets of wood's inner being, underlining the sensations and mystical sensations that he perceives from his surroundings.

Laurenz Stockner

Laurenz Stockner was born in 1971 in Bressanone (province of Bolzano), where he lives and works.

He began his working life as a smith, later becoming a goldsmith, and subsequently studied at the Summer Academy in Salzburg.

As an artist, Stockner constantly seeks after the ideal form, which requires an expert and attentive study of the basic equilibrium between different materials such as iron and copper, as well as a willingness to experiment in new surface treatments.

Markus Delago

Markus Delago was born in 1964 in Ortisei, where he lives and works.

Starting out as an apprentice for Hermann Josef Runggaldier, he later attended the Academy of Figurative Arts in Munich.

His works: ... everything and anything that is in its original state, which forms and grows under its own impulse, according to its own inner laws, rather than as dictated by today's culture and techniques.

Willi Crepaz

Willi Crepaz was born in 1963 in Bressanone (province of Bolzano), and today lives and works in Ortisei (BZ).

A beautifully-sculpted body which is never positioned in a complex pose and which exudes a sensuality that is almost prudish: this is how Willi Crepaz interprets his female nudes, which are the main focus of his work.
The artist purposely leaves the lower part of the wood untouched, using the upper part to represent the upper section of the female form in a subtly disturbing manner, always simplified in a delicate melancholy.

once
a hundred times
a million times.
